Let’s Work Together

From literary fiction to creative nonfiction to annual reports, I am here to polish your words for conciseness, consistency, correctness, and impact. Every piece of writing is unique, and I work collaboratively with writers to identify the level of service that best fits each project’s needs.

Copyediting & Proofreading | Books

I offer light, medium, and heavy copyediting, matching the editing level to each project’s unique needs. I identify and correct consistency issues, factual errors, biased language, and unclear language, as well as spelling, punctuation, and grammar errors.

My approach to heavy copyediting resembles what some editors call line editing. In other words, if you’re interested in getting feedback about flow, sentence structure, word choice, voice, and style, I will work that into our editorial plan!

I offer proofreading services for book manuscripts that have been formatted for publication. I mark formatting and layout issues as well as spelling, punctuation, and grammar errors.

Audiobook & Podcast Proofing

Audiobooks and podcasts are exploding in popularity, and listeners expect high-quality products. I listen to audiobooks and podcasts at 1x speed to identify mispronunciations, phrasing discrepancies, missed or repeated lines, audio quality issues, unnecessary pauses, and pacing issues. The error report comes with exact timestamps and detailed notes.

Copyediting & Proofreading | Business communications, web content, and more

Copyediting is an incredibly valuable step for polishing reports, stories, information, and other important communications. I work closely with non-profits, organizations, and businesses that need to make sure their content will connect with their audience. I edit for consistency, accuracy, readability, structure, style, and correctness. I specialize in matching a brand’s unique tone and voice.

Rates

Costs vary based on project type. A detailed cost estimate will be provided to you once we’ve discussed your project details and needs. In that cost estimate, you’ll see how I calculated the overall project cost based on my hourly rate and/or per word rate. I fall on the lower end of the Editorial Freelancers Association’s rate chart.

As a mission-driven editor, it is important to me to provide editorial services that are accessible and transparent for a wide variety of clients. Let me know if you have a budget we need to work within or if you’re interested in setting up a payment plan. I offer discounts to non-profit organizations.

My Process

  1. Submit an inquiry with a description of your project and your timeline. We can discuss what you are looking for in terms of editorial services. I am open to video calls, phone calls, or emails—whatever feels most comfortable for you.

  2. You receive a free sample edit, a customized cost estimate based on the scale of your project, and a detailed editorial proposal and statement of work. Sample edits for book-length projects should be done on a 1,000-word section from the beginning or middle of the manuscript.

  3. Your manuscript is due 24 hours before the editing is set to begin. I then provide weekly updates on Fridays. If any questions about manuscript-wide style or usage choices come up, I reach out right away to make sure we’re always on the same page.

  4. You receive the Word document with Track Changes edits, a cover letter, and a style sheet that outlines the kinds of changes that were made. You have the chance to accept or reject each change and reach out with any questions.

  5. Optionally, you can send back the document after reviewing it for me to produce a final clean copy formatted according to industry standards. Let me know if you need help with specific formatting requirements for a certain e-book platform or printer.
